Conservatories

Conservatories can be one of the most pleasant rooms within our homes but most people find them too cold in winter and too hot in summer. An air conditioning system could be the answer to both problems, delivering cool filtered air in the summer months and energy efficient heating in the winter, making the conservatory a useful and comfortable room all year round. Due to the temperature extremes reached in a conservatory this room does require a unit with a larger capacity for cooling in summer and a larger capacity for heating during the winter due to excessive heat gains and losses through the glass. Global warming is on everybody's minds and to lessen the impact of global warming we need to reduce our dependency on the burning of fossil fuels right across the nation. The latest generation of air conditioning units also acts as an energy efficient heating system. The government recognises the energy efficient features of this new breed of unit. As a result they have reduced the rate of Value Added Tax (VAT) to only 5% on all energy efficient air conditioning units.

Units now come with an energy rating very much like other domestic appliances such as dish washers and washing machines. Both cycles, heating or cooling, have these ratings and Kool Planet would always look to install the more energy efficient units. Look for 'A' and 'B' rated units in any quote you receive.

We have all been in situations where work colleagues complain about either being too hot or too cold. In both extremes the workforce will not be working at their best. Today heating and cooling systems no longer have to be separate. Nearly everywhere you go today you will see wall or ceiling mounted units. They are often referred to as air conditioning units and are mistakenly considered to only cool the air being circulated. In the current market air conditioning does not necessarily equal air cooling. Air source heat pumps can both heat and cool the workplace. The heat pump inverter system is now the most energy efficient system on the market. As mentioned in the domestic section the units now come with energy ratings and are given the European standard energy efficiency rating on a label. They vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and across a wide spectrum from A to E. Both the heating and cooling cycles are given this rating with the most energy efficient rating being A/A. Keep an eye out for the energy rating on any quote provided by Kool Planet.

It is not only humans that can be affected in the workplace through temperature control. Many companies use air conditioning as a means to stop over heating in the server room. The last thing a business wants is to lose valuable data because their server is down. Server rooms tend to have a slightly larger capacity of unit than normal due to the heat gains given out by the computer equipment.

The government has recently introduced the enhanced capital allowance (ECA) scheme with the aim to manage climate change. Working closely with the scheme we can provide businesses with enhanced tax relief for investments in equipment that meets the published list of energy efficient equipment. This means that the government has a list of energy efficient equipment and business are able to gain tax relief if they have one of these units installed. The list is continuously changing so make sure you check the list regularly for any updates.

Once the installation is complete Kool Planet's work does not stop there. Working in conjunction with yourselves we are able to tailor specific maintenance programs that are suitable with your needs and requirements. With the new FGAS regulations coming into force we are able to design your very own refrigerant log book. Any system with over 3KG of refrigerant in it has to have a log book. Systems of this size need to be leak checked once per year and the log book records the amount of refrigerant added or reclaimed at any time. If annual maintenance contracts are taken out after the installation, we can also offer an extended period for parts warranty. For example as a main agent for Toshiba we are able to offer 5 years parts warranty subject to annual maintenance contract.
